| More Than 60% of Radiohead Fans Paid $0 For the Band's Album |
|
In music headlines these days is the result of Radiohead's experiment; About a month ago, Radiohead annouced that it would let its fans determine the price of their album "In Rainbows". It was an experiment that had everyone curious about it, and a month into it, results show that 6 out of 10 did not pay anything to download the album. An average of $6 was paid for those shelled out for the album.
It's apparently reported by comScore that 1.2 million from around the world visited the In Rainbows website, most of them downloading the album. The band has not confirmed any of the numbers and financials involved in this endeavor.
Although opinions are mixed, some music industry analysts agree that in the end, Radiohead wins with this experiment. They have gotten a lot of media hype, website traffic, and fan loyalty. Some also assume that those who did not pay for the album would not have bought the cd anyway, so in essence, nothing is lost for Radiohead.
